Protest action in Mothutlung and Zithobeni

Violent protests broke out in Mohutlung outside Brits and Zithobeni outside Bronkhorstspruit during the past few weeks.  The main problem in both areas is the lack of basic service delivery.  Residents torched municipal buildings in Zithobeni and clashes with the police happened in both areas. Tensions were so high in Mothutlung that a municipal officer got attacked by members of the community during a memorial service of protesters that died.

Douglas Maimane, a MMC member gets attacked by residents of Mothutlung 

outside Brits during the memorial service held for those who lost their lives during 

the protest.  Residents believe that councilors are deliberately sabotaging 

the water supply in the area.
